Sensing God — Feeling

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me

Psalm 139: 7-10

I think in the same way a fish doesn’t know it’s wet, God’s presence is so familiar, so inherent to our very existence, that we sometimes fail to feel him right here with us. He is after all, Emmanuel, God with us.

I feel God nudge me to do things I might otherwise overlook or ignore. To share a Bible verse with someone. To lift someone up in prayer. To extend kindness to a stranger. To give more than I would offer on my own.

I feel God when I behold the power of the ocean or the vastness of the night sky, and I can’t help but recognize how big God is.

I feel God when I am alone because I’m aware that I am never alone. God is always with me. Always watching. Always caring. A perfect Father.

I feel God when I am sad, reminding me that his plans are perfect, and that I can rest in him and trust him.

I feel God when I am joyful, knowing that it pleases him when I find joy in his abundant blessings.

I feel God whenever I allow love to win. When I set aside my selfishness, pride, anger and lesser things for the only thing that matters, the only thing that remains.

Love is the essence of what God feels like because love is in the very nature of who God is.

Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

1 John: 4
