A House Divided

I, like many of you, have been heartbroken to witness the divisions threatening to rip America in two. I have felt deep conflict over my love of this nation and my belief in its founding principles–preeminently that we are all created equal; endowed by God with inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness–juxtaposed against the equally undeniable truth that America has failed to uphold these rights for far too many Americans.

I have been longing for a message such as this one by The Story Houston‘s Lead Pastor, Eric Huffman; a message that acknowledges the truths–and the lies–on both sides of our national divide. A message that calls for us to unite in striving together toward a more perfect union. I hope you find peace and hope for a better tomorrow in this courageous and timely message:

The US is All of Us, July 5, 2020

Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand.

Matthew 12:25

Abraham Lincoln quoted this verse in advocating for an end to slavery as a Republican senatorial candidate:

A house divided against itself cannot stand.

Abraham Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois
June 16, 1858
