“Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
Matthew 22:36-40
I am beginning to believe that the journey of life is about learning how to fully live these.
God
Love God with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind.
What else receives a share of your heart, soul and mind? Like money, the objects of our affection, worship and mental energy can be our idols…or reveal them.
It’s worth taking inventory and then inviting God’s spirit to help you surrender more of your all so you may love God more.
Self
For most of us if one thing ensnares our hearts, souls and minds it is self.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Jesus did not say “Love your children as yourself.” Or, “Love your bestie as yourself.” Or even, “Love your loved ones as yourself.”
He said “neighbor.” The Greek word is plesion and it simply means “the other” when you are involved; as challenging as it is profound.
I have a friend whose response to this was to move his family to live and love the people of Morocco. For others it looks like serving those in need right here in our city. And for the least among us, myself chief among them, it begins with simply exercising patience and kindness as we go through our days.
If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.
James 2:8
Time is short. Let’s get busy.
Great..look forward to your posts..have a good day knowing you are loved
